VARANASI: The Azamgarh police busted a gang of frauds involved in duping people in the name of arranging their marriage by arresting six of its members including three women on Monday.
SP Azamgarh Anurag Arya said that acting on a tip-off, the
Phoolpur
police nabbed Ashok Kumar,
Shankar, Gulan Bharti of Azamgarh, Aradhna,
Rina Yadav alias
Zeenat
and
Puja Kumari
of Ambedkar Nagar district from Ambari crossing. Jewellery including two mangalsutra were recovered from their possession.
The gang came on the radar of Azamgarh police after one Satbir Prajapati of Hisar district in Haryana had lodged an FIR with Phoolpur police on Sunday alleging that Aradhna had called him for arranging his brother’s marriage. The gang charged Rs 60,000 for arranging a marriage by providing fake Adhaar card and marriage certificate to them. Later, they used to flee with the jewellery gifted to the bride and cash. Police were trying to collect criminal history of this gang members.
