VARANASI: The two-day national seminar on emerging trends in iron and steel technology, organised by department of metallurgical engineering, Institute of Technology (IT),
Banaras Hindu University, concluded on Sunday.
As per S Majumdar, convener of the seminar, a number of presentations unveiling the emerging trends and challenges in iron and steel technology were discussed on the concluding day.
It included discussions on establishment of zero-waste steel plants using various technology routes and recent technological advancement in steel making and continuous casting.
Prof SN Ojha of department of metallurgical engineering, IT-BHU, highlighted the new vistas in compact strip production for micro alloyed steel. Rajiv Singh from Ranchi demonstrated how mathematical models using fluid computational dynamics could be used for improving the casting and moulding in steel making on the occasion.

Noted writer and scholar, Prof John Tolly from Columbia University (US) highlighted the role of Bhatkti movement that started from South India and made significant contribution for changing the society in North India. A number of scholars and intellectuals including Prof Vasudha Dalmiya from California University and member, Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), New Delhi, Prof Purshottam Agrawal also presented their views on the occasion.
