VARANASI: On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Munshi Premchand, several cultural activities were organised by the regional cultural centre at the author's native village Lamhi on Wednesday. A tribute ceremony was organised in the morning that was attended by UP minister of culture and women welfare (Independent charge), Arun Kumar Kori. In the ceremony, the minister also felicitated literati and artists.
The ceremony was followed by a play based on the stories by Premchand like 'Durasha', 'Mantra' and 'Sawa Ser Genhu'. A musical performance by folk artist Heeralal Yadav was a hit with the locals. A nautanki performance was also presented by the local artists.

Banaras Hindu University celebrated Premchand's birth anniversary with a seminar on the writings of the author. Meanwhile, the birth anniversary of Premchand was celebrated at the Rajbhasha Vibhag, Diesal Locomotive Works (DLW) on Wednesday.
