VARANASI: Busting an inter-state gang of vehicle lifters, police arrested three of its members including the kingpin. The cops recovered 11 motorcycle and parts of two other motorcycles from their possession.
Producing the arrested vehicle lifters before reporters on Monday, DIG, Lalji Shukla said that acting on a tip off, the Cantonment cops cordoned Daulatpur crossing on Sunday evening and succeeded in nabbing the three youths with three stolen motorcycles.
The arrested miscreants were identified as
Ajay Kumar of Karaundi, Vivek Kumar of Daulatpur and Om Prakash of Sarang Talab locality.
Later, cops recovered eight other motorcycles lifted from different places in the city and accessories of two other stolen motorcycles.
During police investigation, it came to light that Ajay was the kingpin of this inter-state gang of vehicle lifters. This gang mainly operated in Cantonment, Sarnath, Jaitpura, Chetganj police station areas and adjoining districts.
Shukla said that some mechanics and scrap traders were also associated with this gang as after lifting motorcycles, the gang used to change its number plates and send it to neighbouring states like Bihar for selling.
Regarding his involvement in the crime, Ajay said that he wanted to collect money to pay bribe to ensure his selection in police department as a sub-inspector.
Shukla said that police teams had been sent to different districts to nab other members of the gang.
