PM Narendra Modi to be main ‘yajman’ at Ayodhya Ram temple event

VARANASI: Before leaving for Ayodhya to lead the band of Vedic scholars and priests to consecrate Ram Lalla idol at his birthplace, Kashi's veteran Vedic Karmkand (ritualism) scholar Pt Laxmikant Mathuranath Dixit on Tuesday made it clear that PM Narendra Modi will be the main yajman (patron) of consecration rituals on January 22.

Dixit is the principal acharya of the 'pran pratishtha', which will be overseen, coordinated and anchored by Kashi scholar and priest Ganeshwar Shastri Dravid along with a team of 121 acharyas.




As the PM can't stay for a long time to complete all the rituals, which began on Tuesday, other people would be assisting him as yajman.


As Dixit (86) stepped out of his residence on Tuesday, people started showering flower petals on him till he reached Golghar to board his car for Ayodhya. BJP MLA from city south Neelkanth Tiwari along with hundreds of people bid him farewell amidst 'Har Har Mahadev' and 'Jai Shri Ram' slogans and blowing of conch shells.



Dixit said: "Rituals prior to consecration had begun in the temple in Ayodhya and 'jalyatra' was in progress. I will join the team of Vedic scholars and Karmkandis (ritual priests), and 'yajman prayashchit' ritual will be performed on Wednesday."
