VARANASI: The road transport department is all set to install automatic weighing machines at selected points on the highways for round-the-clock monitoring of overloaded vehicles, especially goods carriers.
It was disclosed by transport commissioner Sudhir Kumar Srivastava during a brief chat with media on Wednesday. Srivastava was in the city to review the performance of the regional transport offices of Varanasi,
Gorakhpur, Azamgarh and Mirzapur divisions.
After the review meet, he told the media that directives had been issued to achieve the target of financial year at any cost.
He admitted that despite all the effort, problem of overloading of vehicles could not be checked completely. Keeping the same facts in view, it had been decided to install automatic weighing machines at some points on the highways in the state, he said and added the machines would collect the data of all vehicles passing through those points. It would help in knowing how many vehicles were overloaded and what action had been initiated against them by the officials concerned, added Srivastava.
He said in the case of overloading, the officials should ensure that the goods were unloaded from the vehicle apart from initiating other punitive action. He said the facility of online deposition of vehicle tax was also going to be introduced in the state. The department, he said, had made a tie up with the State Bank of India in that regard. Regarding the promotion of employees and officials of the department, he said the process of collecting data of all the employees and officials from all the districts had been started. After completion of that process, the promotion lists would be released from Lucknow.
