Varanasi: In a massive late-night drive against illegally parked vehicles on highways, police penalised 213 vehicles, including 66 trucks and trailers, to clear obstructions and ensure safe traffic flow.
ADCP Gimati zone Nripendra said that an intensive checking drive was carried out by the in-charges of all police stations and outposts on national highways, state highways and other major roads under their respective jurisdictions.
Police focused on roadside parked vehicles to keep traffic moving safely. Many drivers had abandoned vehicles before leaving for other places. Officials were directed to take immediate action — issue challans or seize vehicles — especially those parked illegally or driving on the wrong side of national and state highways, as they were blocking traffic.
By late night, police had penalised 213 vehicles — 71 two-wheelers, 35 three-wheelers, 41 four-wheelers, and 66 heavy vehicles like trucks and trailers. One two-wheeler was also seized. Officials continued warnings over loudhailers that action against violators would continue.
