Organise awareness programme at village level: Divisional commissioner

VARANASI: Divisional commissionerChanchal Kumar Tiwari held a meeting on Friday to discuss preparations for the week-long awareness programme of Groundwater Week from July 16 to 22.
Tiwari instructed the officials to organise an awareness programme at village-level to mobilise people towards groundwater recharging and conservation.
The gap between demand and supply of water is increasing with the growing population.
There is a need of long-term programme for groundwater conservation through traditional ways. Highlighting the importance of ponds in groundwater recharging, Tiwari asked the officials for restoration and maintenance of ponds.
The superintending engineer of minor irrigation has been made nodal officer of the groundwater week for holding awareness programmes.
