VARANASI: The Bhelupur police on Thursday arrested nine persons, including the local franchisee of a company, in a case of embezzlement.
It may be recalled here that on August 12 some miscreants had looted Rs 59 lakh after opening fire on the security guard of local franchisee of a Mumbai-based company handling the ATMs of the Bank of Baroda. After the incident, DIG Lalji Shukla had engaged several teams of police to work out the case.
During initial investigation, SP (city) MS Chauhan and other officials found massive irregularities committed by the local franchise in maintaining the records of cash. When the cops checked the records of the local franchisee, about Rs 1.84 crore was found missing.

Rohit Singh of Azamgarh, was taken into custody. After verifying the records, the bank officials lodged a named FIR against nine persons in this connection on Wednesday. On the basis of the same complaint, the police arrested all the nine accused persons on Thursday. The police are expecting that the shooters who opened fire on security guard would also be arrested very soon.
