Newborn care week: Sensitisation workshop stresses better post-natal care

Varanasi: As part of Newborn Care Week, a district-level sensitisation workshop was held in the auditorium of the Urban CHC Durgakund, on Wednesday.
Addressing the workshop, CMO Dr Sandeep Chaudhary emphasised promoting institutional deliveries and ensuring proper medical attention through the Newborn Care Corner located in the delivery room. He stated that Sick Newborn Care Units (SNCU) and Newborn Stabilisation Units (NBSU) at health facilities should be strengthened continuously for better health management and care of preterm and low birth weight newborns. Additionally, he said special care should be emphasised during home visits by ASHA workers for low birth weight or preterm infants discharged from SNCU and NBSU. Continuous follow-up is also needed. He also placed emphasis on strengthening the Home-Based Newborn Care and Home-Based Young Child Care programmes operating at the community level.
District immunisation officer Dr A K Maurya stated that all vaccines recommended by the physician at birth should be administered to the infant. Vaccination increases the infant's immunity and reduces the risk of infection.
