VARANASI: The demise of Devendra Dwivedi, Gujarat's Governor designate, and former general secretary of Congress Party, was condoled by party workers, local intellectuals as well as professors of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and Central Tibetan University.
In their condolence message, they said that the nation lost a progressive statesman. Dwivedi, a native of Varanasi, played a significant role in national politics since late sixties when he became the member of Rajya Sabha.

Champion of human rights, Dwivedi, was always respectful to dissent and tolerant to others view point. India will miss a suave statesman, who shunned the Sangh Parivar antiques in spite of the fact that he came from a family with history in Sangha Parivar.
The death was condoled by Prof Dipak Malik of BHU, Dr Vishwanath Pandey of BHU, Prof Rajendra Jaiswal, Jahangir Alam, advocate, Shakti Pada Ghoonal, Indradeo Mishra, advocate, Ashok Pandey, Prof Ajit Pandey, Prof Ashok Kaul, Dr Rakesh Pandey, Prof Rampravesh Pathak, Prof B D Tripathi, and Dr Kiran Singh of Central Tibetan University.
