Allahabad: NaMo and Raga sprinklers selling like hot cakes, shops flooded with ‘Mahagathbandhan’ colours

ALLAHABAD: As election fever is slowly picking up in the country, the Holi revelers are all set to enjoy splash of political colours with sprinklers and colours named after political parties and leaders available in the market.

The city markets remained flooded with buyers a day before the eve of Holi on Tuesday. The district administration and police also remained busy in reviewing the security arrangements for the festival.

While major crowd was evident at garments and food shops, the makeshift outlets of colours, gulal and sprinklers also mushroomed along the roads in prominnet markets of the city.

District magistrate Surendra Singh and SSP Anand Kulkarni took stock of the security arrangements in the district. Kulkarni said that series of peace committee meetings and route marches by the police and para-military forces in view of the festival had already been started a week back. Sites of Holika dahan in communally sensitive and mixed populated areas have been identified and are under close vigil by the local police, he said.

A special package of colours ‘

Mahagathbandhan

’ comprises different colours including dry and water colours along with gulal of different shades. The packet bears picture of different political leaders and symbols of members parties of the ‘mega-coalition’ including Mamata Banerjee, Akhilesh Yadav, Mayawati and Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi.

“This packet is the most popular in the market as there is Rahul gulal and Priyanka herbal colour in it along with red colour in name of Akhilesh and blue named after Mayawati”, said Mohammad Quadir, a wholesale trader.

In sproinklers too, NaMo and RaGa sprinklers are being sold like hot cakes in the markets. There is a special sprinkler named after Nitish Kumar- ‘Nitish holi rang’ finding many buyers in the market. Besides, ‘Yogi-Modi rang’ is no less in demand in market.

Aprt from political tags, sprinklers and colours designed on theme of popular cartoon characters like Chhota Bhim, Tom and Jerry, Ben10, Bal Ganesha, Spiderman, Bal Krishna, crazy birds, panda, etc are popular among kids.
