MMMUT gets its 1st woman vice-chancellor
Gorakhpur: Madan Mohan Malviya University of Technology (MMMUT) has appointed Prof Anupama Kaushik Sharma as its new vice-chancellor. Sharma is the fifth VC and the first woman to hold the post since the university’s days as Madan Mohan Malaviya Engineering College.
According to the order issued from Jan Bhavan, Lucknow, Prof Sharma has been appointed as the VC of MMMUT for a three-year term from the date she assumes charge. Her appointment is being seen as a significant milestone in technical education in Uttar Pradesh, as no woman is believed to have earlier served as vice-chancellor or director of a technical institution in the state.
Prof Sharma completed her BE and ME in Chemical Engineering from Panjab University in 1993 and 1995, respectively. She later earned an MBA in Finance and a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the same university. She also holds a postgraduate diploma in Statistics and a diploma in French. She joined Panjab University as a lecturer in 1999, became associate professor in 2008 and professor in 2011. She has also served as TEQIP coordinator, dean (Alumni Relations) and chairperson of the University Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology.
With over 31 years of experience, Prof Sharma has published nearly 100 research papers and supervised 10 PhD scholars. She is expected to assume the charge shortly.
