VARANASI: The Muslim women associated with Muslim Mahila Foundation in Varanasi have come forward in support of Nida Khan and Supreme Court lawyer Farah Faiz on the issue of triple talaq and practice of Nikah Halala. Demanding a ban on All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), the MMF wrote a letter to the President Ram Nath Kovind.

Nida Khan, who approached the Supreme Court challenging triple talaq given to her by her husband, was recently ostracized by an Islamic seminary in

Bareilly

. A Muslim cleric Ejaz Arshad Qasmi slapped Supreme Court lawyer Farah Faiz during a live news debate on triple talaq. Holding a Mahila Kutchehary at Varunanagaram Colony on Thursday, the MMF strongly condemned the fatwa against Nida Khan and slapping of Farah Faiz. It was resolved that the maulanans who support tripal talaq and Nikah Halala, would be socially boycotted.

"We have resolved not only to refuse chai-paani to such maulana but also boycott them completely," said the MMF president Nazneen Ansari. She said that MMF would extend all possible support to Nida Khan.

"We will also prepare a list of such maulanas and send it to the Central government for appropriate action against them. The MMF will fight legal battle against the maulanas who encourage exploitation of women in the name of Nikah Halala and triple talaq," she said terming the practice of Nikah Halala as an organised sexual crime against women. In her letter to the President, she urged him to ban the AIMPLB, which, according to her, is an NGO but is acting like a custodian of Muslim women.

Holding placards the women also burnt the effigy of AIMPLB to express their protest. Several women including Najma, Shabana, Bano, Rizwana Ansari, Raziya Khan, Shakina Bibi, Parvin Fatima and many others attended the programme. Meanwhile, a group of students associated with

Azad Hind

Students Association also held demonstration at BHU main gate in their support and burnt effigy.
