VARANASI: Cops at Hathinala police station were stunned when a man placed the body of his 17-day-old daughter before them, stating that he killed her following a quarrel with his wife on Tuesday.
Hathinala police station in-charge, SP Singh, said on Wednesday that Ramrati Kharwar (30) of Saudih village was arrested, and the body of the infant was sent for a postmortem examination.
During the initial police investigation, it came to light that Kharwar’s wife delivered a girl child on the day of the Dussehra festival. Due to this, the couple named her 'Dasmatia'. On Monday, the infant fell ill, and the couple left their home on Tuesday for the hospital to consult a doctor.
On the way to the hospital, Kharwar and his wife quarrelled, after which he lost his cool and strangled his daughter. However, when he calmed down, he realised his mistake and reached the police station with the body of the infant.
