Varanasi: While the Covid-19 menace maintained its alarming trend in the district with the detection of 28 new Covid-19 positive cases on Monday, teenagers showed massive enthusiasm in getting their jab with the commencement of Covid-19 vaccination for 15+ children.
The daily evening bulletin of the chief medical officer stated that 4,357 lab test reports were received in which 28 persons were confirmed as positive for coronavirus infection.
With the detection of new cases, the number of active cases in the district has reached to 86. Cumulative figure of total Covid-19 cases reached up to 82,496 of which 81,637 have been recovered.

Sandeep Chaudhary said, 529 centres were established in the district for Covid-19 vaccination of which 78 centres have started vaccination for children above 15 years in the district on Monday. Though separate queues were created for children of 15 to 18 years, they were dominant in entire gathering of vaccine seekers at all the 78 centres, said the CMO. In view of the increasing size of queues for vaccines at many centres like Pandeypur, Sigra, PHC and CHCs of Kashi Vidyapeeth, Cholapur, Rohaniya, Badagaon and other, police were called as a precautionary measure, he added.
At the employees club of Banaras Locomotive Works, the BLW general manager Anjali Goyal camped to look after the arrangements of starting of vaccination for 15+ children. Separate counters were created for vaccination of 15+. At the divisional hospital of North Eastern Railway Varanasi division, chief medical director Dr SPS Sachdeva started the vaccination drive for children by monitoring the vaccination of a girl Astha Suman.
Suman and other beneficiaries under 18 years of age were excited to get vaccinated. They said that they needed to get vaccinated to ensure that their studies were not hampered due to another wave of Covid-19 and so that they can appear for the board examinations of class 10 and 12, fearlessly.
The medical superintendent of SSL hospital of Banaras Hindu University Prof KK Gupta said that 152 beneficiaries under 18 years of age were vaccinated at the centre of BHU and a total of 400 persons of 18 years and above category were also given jab.
