Varanasi: When millions of lamps illuminate the Ganga ghats on Dev Deepawali,
Kashi will once again reflect the spirit of ‘Mini Bharat'- a confluence of India's diverse cultures shining together on the sacred riverbanks—on the occasion on (Nov 5).
The millions of diyas glowing along the Ganga will paint a radiant picture of the nation's varied traditions. Each ghat will reflect a distinct regional identity — some showcasing Marathi traditions, others echoing South Indian customs, while Maithil Brahmins' lamp decorations, Gujarati rangoli, and ornate thalis will draw the attention of visitors. This year's Dev Deepawali in Kashi will embody the essence of "Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat" at a global level, offering a unique experience to tourists from across the country and abroad. The tourism department has geared up to ensure grand success of the event.
At Panchganga Ghat, one of Kashi's five sacred pilgrimage sites, a vibrant display of Marathi culture will once again take the center stage. Families from the Marathi mohalla are busy preparing to decorate lamps and perform Ganga Aarti in traditional ways. Similarly, the Nepali mohalla is abuzz with activity, as Nepali families ready their own unique lamp decorations.
The confluence of these two cultural traditions will make Panchganga Ghat stand out on Dev Deepawali night.
Around Dashashwamedh Ghat and Rajendra Prasad Ghat, the worship and lighting of lamps will follow the customs of the Maithil Brahmins. When both banks of the Ganga shimmer with millions of lamps on the evening of Dev Deepawali, the spectacle will transcend religious boundaries to become a celebration of India's cultural unity.
Tourism joint director Dinesh Kumar said the tourism department will light around 10 lakh diyas during Dev Deepawali, while local ghat committees will manage their own arrangements.
"Committees at every ghat are actively working to make the event historic," he said.
