VARANASI: Ornaments and valuables worth over Rs 25 lakh were stolen from two houses in Kundaria village in Jansa police station area on Tuesday night.
According to reports, a band of thieves broke into the house of Jagdish Mishra around midnight and took away ornaments worth Rs 23 lakh and Rs 5,000 cash. They also raided the neighbouring house of Mohan Master from where they stole ornament worth of Rs 2 lakh and Rs 35,000 cash.
The theft came to light on Wednesday morning and on getting information police reached there with a dog squad. Empty boxes of jewelry were found in a field nearby. The matter is being investigated.
Prisoner dies: An ailing 75-year-old prisoner Lalji Maurya, resident of Tejpur village in Barsathi police station area of Jaunpur district, died at the Central Jail on Wednesday. Awarded life term in a murder case, he was suffering from asthma.
