VARANASI: A senior local JD (U) leader here has expressed the hope that senior party leader Sharad Yadav will reconcile with Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar's decision to quit the

Grand Alliance

and embrace NDA to form state government.

State president of Yuva JD (U) R S Patel said that Sharad Yadav, who had led the party as an

ally of NDA

in the past, would be persuaded in favour of the alliance by senior leaders. "There is no rift in the party on this issue in UP. Nitish Kumar took a wise decision to quit the Grand Alliance," he told reporters on Monday.

Patel said that Sharad Yadav is the senior most leader of the party and respected by all. "He (Sharad Yadav) should not show his unhappiness on the issue as he had been part of NDA for 17 years," Patel said.

Patel added that Sharad Yadav should understand that Nitish Kumar took this decision to serve the people of Bihar in a better way.

Sharad Yadav had reportedly said that he did not agree with Nitish's decision on siding with the NDA. Nitish left the grand alliance on July 26 and allied with the BJP-led NDA.

Backing Nitish, Patel said, "Sharad Yadav's reported disagreement will not create any rift in the party, as Nitish Kumar took the decision to save Bihar from corruption. He was not willing to quit the Grand Alliance, but it was not possible for him to lead the government after Tejashwi Yadav was named by CBI in a

corruption case.
