VARANASI: The Lanka police recorded the statements of some of organising committee members of the recently organised 55th All India Congress of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (AICOG-2012) in connection with alleged charging of huge amount against the declared tariff of hotel rooms from the participants on Wednesday.
Talking to TOI, Arvind Kumar Maurya, circle officer, Bhelupur said the investigation in the alleged fraudulent case was on and the recording of statements of organising committee members was a part of the process.
"The temporary office in the Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU has been sealed and efforts are on to collect details of papers of registration fees, transportation and hotel tariffs," he added.
It may be mentioned here that the Lanka police had sealed the temporary office in the presence of proctorial staff of BHU after lodging FIR against 14 persons including the organising committee office bearers of AICOG-2012 on Tuesday (January 31). The five-day AICOG-2012 was held at Swatantrata Bhawan in
Banaras Hindu University campus from January 26 to January 30. As per OP Rai, deputy chief proctor, BHU, the investigations in the matter are going on and the proctorial staff is lending full support to the police.
An FIR had been already lodged with Lanka police against 14 persons including all chairpersons, secretaries of AICOG's organising committee and also the owners and officials of travel agencies involved in it under sections 419, 420, 406 and 120B (fraudulent and conspiracy) of IPC and also section 74 of IT Act.
