Hospital owner arrested for nurse’s murder in Gorakhpur

Gorakhpur: The owner of Sans Hospital and Trauma Centre in Sant Kabir Nagar, Ramjeet Bharti alias Ramji Rao, has been arrested for the murder of 25-year-old receptionist nurse Mamta Chaudhary. The arrest was made near Kante Highway on Tuesday following swift action by the Khalilabad police, SP Satyajeet Gupta said during a press conference on Wednesday.The victim, a resident of Pahura village in Basti district, was found dead on Tuesday inside a room at the hospital. On a complaint filed by her grandfather, Sant Ram, a case was registered under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, police said. Police recovered two mobile phones and the hospital's DVR from the accused. During interrogation, Ramjeet confessed to having a relationship with Mamta. He claimed that Mamta had recently started speaking with another hospital staff, Abhishek, leading to tension in their relation.In his statement, he said that on Monday night he called Mamta to the terrace and asked her to stop talking to Abhishek. When she refused, he slapped her and tried to strangle her. The attempt was interrupted by a staff member, Shazia Khatoon. The next morning, taking advantage of a power outage and non-functional CCTV, Ramjeet allegedly entered the rest room and strangled Mamta to death. He then tried to make the death look natural, and informed her family. He then fled with her phone. tnn
