Honour killing attempt foiled by cops, 2 held

VARANASI: A man was caught red-handed beating his daughter with iron rods in a bid to kill her. His son too was an accomplice in the act. The chance arrival of police on the spot saved the girl. She was taken to a nearby hospital from where she was referred to Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital at Allahabad.
According to reports, one Rekha (name changed) a resident of Atauli, Badlapur fell in love with a boy of different caste.This was unacceptable to her father Yadhunath and his son Sandeep Yadav. They fixed her marriage but Rekha refused. On Friday, Yadhunath and Sandeep asked Rekha to accompany them to Allahabad to fill a form the post of lecturership. On the way, they stopped the vehicle at Madhupur village under Mungra Badshahpur police station of Jaunpur and allegedly started beating her with iron rods.
Meanwhile, a police team passing through the area heard Rekha's cries and rushed to her aid. Yadhunath and Sandeep were arrested.
2 held for harassing woman: Varanasi Police on Saturday nabbed two persons wanted in connection with alleged sexual and physical harassment of a woman in Badagaon area of Jamalpur police circle. The third accused is still on the run.
SSP Ajay Kumar Mishra said that a Badagaon woman had alleged that Kamlesh Yadav, Ravindra Yadav and Pramod Yadav entered her house on Thursday night and sexually harassed her. She was beaten and threatened for resisting their move. On the basis of the written complaint an FIR was lodged under sections 354/504/506/323/452 of the IPC on Friday. Ravindra Yadav and Pramod Yadav were nabbed on Saturday.
