VARANASI: Shailesh Rai, a history-sheeter, was sprayed with bullets by six assailants miscreants at his residence in Revatipur village, under Sohwal police station in Ghazipur district on Thursday morning. Involvement of Shailesh's cousin is suspected in the murder. It was the ninth killing in the rivalry of Rai and his cousins.
According to reports, Shailesh was sitting at his marketing complex adjacent to his residence in Revatipur around 9.15 am when six assailants raided the place.
After interacting with Shailesh for several minutes, the miscreants opened fire on him. Despite sustaining bullet injuries, Shailesh tried to escape towards his residence. But the shooters continued firing by giving a hot chase. The assailants stopped firing only after becoming assured that Shailesh had died. They fled on three motorcycles.
The incident site is just few hundred metres away from Revatipur police outpost. Reports stated that when the shooting took place, the SO was present at the same outpost. But the police swung in action after the miscreants fled from the scene. The family members of Shailesh lodged a named FIR against his cousin Sanjay Rai, a dreaded shooter of Bihar's Guddu Rai and four others in this connection. SP Ghazipur Manoj Kumar reached the spot. The body was sent for postmortem examination. Reports stated that the rivalry between Shailesh and Sanjay's families started in 1985. Shailesh's father NN Rai owned an orchard. In 1985, a buffalo of NN Rai's cousin RA Rai entered the orchard after which both the families quarrelled. Rai's sons Karia Rai, Vinayak Rai, Arjun Rai and Sanjay Rai killed NN Rai. To avenge the killing of his father, Shailesh murdered Karia, Arjun and Vinayak. In retaliation, Sanjay killed Shailesh's brother Gulgul. After it, three supporters of Shailesh named as Damodar and Narain and another persons were shot while OP Rai was also attacked.
