GORAKHPUR: The Gorakhpur railway station is all set to a make a new record of having the world's longest platform. After the completion of the Yard remodeling work in progress there, the platform number 1 and 2 of the station will become the world's longest platforms with the length of 1,366.3 meters with ramp and 1,355.3 meters without ramp. The work is expected to complete by October 6.
At present Khadakpur platform is the world's longest platform with the length of 1,072.5 meters.
"Around two years ago the length of platform number 1 and 2 of Gorakhpur railway station was 1,000 meters and after remodeling plan the length was raised by about 100 meters. We are working day and night to expand the length of the platform by 250 meters in the west direction. After completion of the remodeling work 26-coach trains will able to stand at platform number 1 and 2, simultaneously," said, GM, NER, KK Atal.
"We have already approached Guinness book of records regarding the length of the platform," Atal added. "Thousands of rail employees are involved in installing rail lines and signal interlocking work. At the western end the team of BK Singh, deputy chief engineer (construction) is managing the rail lines whereas signal testing in route relay room is being conducted under the supervision of HK Agarwal, chief signal and telecommunication engineer. Eight thousand relay and 1 lakh wires have been installed to connect the route in the route relay room. Now trains will be controlled from the route relay room," said CPRO, Alok Kumar Singh.
Due to the remodeling work several trains have been cancelled from September 26 and October 6 and trains traffic will be limited to Domingarh and Sahjanwa in west and Nakha Jungle in east.
Atul Jain, RM, roadways, has claimed that they have increased the number of buses at Deoria in east, at Sonouli in west and from Sahjanwa to Basti in west for the convenience of passengers. "There is no dearth of buses and we'll further increase the number of buses if required," said Atul Jain. A huge crowd was found at the inquiry counter of the railway station on the first and second day of yard remodeling. The list of affected trains has been displayed at several places on the station and a control room is also being operated at the railway station to facilitate the passengers. In order to manage the heavy rush during festive season, the NER has announced a Mela Special (05027) train between Gorakhpur and Anandvihar, Delhi, from October 12 to 16.
