VARANASI: Hollywood actress, producer and director,
Goldie Hawn had emotional moments during her visit to the historical ghats of city.
She was emotional on knowing that her spiritual Guru Acharya Devki Nandan Shastri is no more when she visited his place at Munshighat on Saturday evening. During her brief stay there she offered tributes to Shastri and shared her memories with Acharya's son Gokul Sharma.
The latter recalled that Goldie met his father for the first time in 1982. Since then she made regular visits about seven-eight times.
Afterwards Goldie, the American actress whose career has spanned four decades, left Munshighat for Dashashwamedh Ghat to take part in Ganga Aarti in a decorated boat. She told TOI,"I have close association with this city and I have many friends here. Hawn, who is perhaps best known for her roles in Private Benjamin, Foul Play, Wildcats, Overboard, Bird on a Wire, Death Becomes Her, The First Wives Club, and The Banger Sisters, denied that there was any purpose of her visit to this place.
Goldie, who won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the 1969 film Cactus Flower, initially climbed up the ghat steps. But, for a good view of Aarti she returned to her boat and took photos of the event.
