NEW DELHI: A 16-year-old girl was found dead in her home in Lakhanpur village on Saturday, two days after her family filed a molestation complaint with the police.
The girl's family told police that a young man had been harassing their daughter on her way to coaching classes and threatening her over the phone. They filed a complaint at the Sikandarpur police station.
However, the two policemen assigned to the case, head constable Munib Yadav and constable Vikas Kumar Yadav, did not inform their superiors or follow proper investigative procedures.
“Gross negligence of duty, indifference, inaction and indiscipline,” said superintendent of police Vikrant Vir, explaining the grounds for the officers' immediate suspension.
The girl was found hanging from a ceiling fan with a dupatta, according to station house officer Vikrant Vir. The investigation into the girl's death is ongoing.
