Varanasi: The police cyber cell and other security agencies have launched a probe after some conman, whose location has been traced on Kashmir-Pakistan border, created fake profiles of Varanasi divisional commissioner

Deepak Agrawal

and district magistrate

Kaushal Raj Sharma

on WhatsApp by using their photographs and started sending messages demanding money to persons in their contact lists.
The district magistrate himself sounded an alert about the fraudulent activities on Sunday evening and appealed to people not to fall for such messages.
Speaking to TOI on Monday, the DM said, “Some anti-social element has created a fake WhatsApp profile with the photograph of divisional commissioner on mobile number 9797370756. Another fake profile with the number 7286907727 has been created with my name and photograph.”
This person is making calls and sending WhatsApp messages to officers and individuals on the numbers saved in the contact lists of both officers to demand money and gifts, he said appealing to the people that these numbers do not belong to divisional commissioner and him, hence such calls and messages should not be entertained, and details, if any, be shared with police.
The cyber cell of police and other agencies have started tracing the caller, said officials while appealing people to help investigators in tracing the accused.
