Cough syrup case: Chargesheet filed against Shubham Jaiswal aide

Varanasi: Rohania police filed a chargesheet against fugitive codeine syrup smuggling syndicate kingpin Shubham Jaiswal’s partner, Saurabh Tyagi of Ghaziabad, from whom Rohania police had recovered stock.

DCP Varuna Zone Pramod Kumar on Thursday said Tyagi is lodged in Tripura jail. Chargesheet against other accused persons was already filed in the case, while, after completing necessary formalities, process of filing chargesheet against Tyagi before the fast track court of ADJ (14th Finance Commission) was also completed on Wednesday, he added.

Tyagi was accused in the case lodged by Rohania police following recovery of a huge stock of codeine cough syrup from a gym in Bhadwar on Nov 19, 2025. He was among nine accused in the case. Except Shubham, all other accused, including his father Bhola Prasad Jaiswal, were arrested while the fugitive kingpin is being hunted for by Interpol after issuance of a red-corner notice against him.

During police investigation, police found that the cough syrup recovered in Bhadwar area belonged to Tyagi. Police are now tracing the properties of six accused in the case to initiate proceedings of forfeiture.
