VARANASI: The district police succeeded in nabbing a notorious criminal, who had taken contract for killing someone, from near the Sarnath railway station on Thursday night.
Talking to media persons on Friday, the SP (City) Santosh Kumar Singh said acting on a tip-off, the joint team of special operation group (SOG) and Sarnath police tried to catch three suspected criminals.

Seeing the police party, they started fleeing and opened fire on the police. One of them, identified as Sjay Chauhan, was caught while his two aides Imran Khan and Rajesh Yadav managed to escape in the darkness. The police recovered a country made pistol, two live cartridges and a motorcycle from him.
During interrogation, Chauhan, resident of Adampur area, revealed that they had been asked by one Haider, presently lodged in the district jail, to kill a person in Sarnath. Imran, who fled from the scene, knew the name of the target, he said. He also confessed to have killed one Arman Khan on contract in Gangapur area under Rohaniya police station in 2009. Besides, they had been involved in many cases of loot, auto lifting and chain snatching.
