VARANASI: Congress workers blocked the busy GT Road near Andharapul (Cantonment area) on Thursday in protest against the arrest of state Congress president Reeta Bahuguna Joshi and setting up her house ablaze in the state capital.
The members also burnt the effigy of Mayawati as a mark of protest. A sit-in was also organised in the area where the members condemned the spate of incidents leading to the arrest of the state president of the party.
Senior leaders, including Satish Chaubey and Daya Shankar Mishra Dayalu, were also present on the occasion.

As many as 55 members, including senior leaders, were also arrested and sent to the Police Lines. Later, they were released on self-bond.
