CM Yogi to launch Rs1,054cr devpt projects in Gorakhpur today
Gorakhpur: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for 470 development projects worth around Rs 1,054 crore in Gorakhpur on Thursday.
The projects include inauguration of 173 completed works and foundation laying for 297 others. A major highlight of the event will be the inauguration of a newly developed eco park at Ekla Bandh, created on a reclaimed landfill site.
The ceremony will be held at the eco park, which has been developed after scientific disposal of approximately 2.26 lakh metric tonnes of legacy waste spread over 40 acres. Built under the National Clean Air Programme at a cost of about Rs5 crore, the park features walking tracks, footpaths, yoga and meditation zones, and a dedicated children’s play area.
Among key infrastructure works, the CM will inaugurate road widening and strengthening projects at Ekla Bandh (Rs8.35 crore) and from Rajghat bridge to the carcass plant (Rs7.71 crore). The 173 completed works, worth Rs304.68 crore, include 87 road and drain projects (Rs95.77 crore), 83 drainage works (Rs129.85 crore), and mayor and councillor priority works worth Rs58 crore.
Under the Chief Minister Green Road Infrastructure Development (CM Grid) scheme, six smart road projects will also be launched. These include key stretches such as Ganesh Chowk to University Chowk, Betiyahata Chowk to Alhadadpur, and TDM Tiraha to Pandeyhata, aimed at modernising the city’s road network.
Other major initiatives include beautification of three parks under the Upvan scheme (Rs6.44 crore), construction of a stormwater drainage system from Gulariha police station to Chilua Tal (Rs123.81 crore), and development of green belts and mini-forests across wards (Rs35.01 crore).
On the occasion, the CM will also launch the Swachh School Campaign under the Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0. The programme will promote waste management, hygiene, water conservation, and behavioural change among students, along with activities such as competitions and a star-rating system for schools based on cleanliness standards.
