‘Bahu’ declares hubby, parents-in-law dead on docus for property

Varanasi: In a shocking case of property fraud, a woman falsely declared her husband and parents-in-laws as deceased to seize their house.She managed to transfer the property documents into her name with the help of a Varanasi Municipal Corporation (VMC) staff.The scam was exposed after Vinod Kumar Singh, a relative, lodged a complaint with Municipal Commissioner Akshay Verma, who promptly ordered an investigation.Upon revelation of the scam, the VMC Commissioner suspended Muharrir (deputy clerk) Kunwar Vikram Singh with immediate effect. He also sent a recommendation to the govt for suspension of Tax Superintendent Munna Ram. Verma ordered an adverse entry to be given to the Tax Superintendent and his salary was withheld until further notice, for registering a property in the name of a woman, Aparna Singh, based on fake documents. Verma also ordered the zonal officer Trans-Varuna to file an FIR against Aparna for using forged documents and declaring living persons as deceased.VMC officials said complainant Vinod Kumar Singh alleged Aparna had falsely declared her husband Manish Singh, father-in-law Pramod Kumar Singh and mother-in-law Rajkumari Singh as dead in official documents with the help of forged certificates to seize their house. Soon after, the VMC ordered a probe, which revealed that Pramod Kumar Singh is retired from a govt department and is currently receiving pension while Manish Singh is working as a senior officer in a reputed company. Investigators also found that Aparna fraudulently obtained death certificates for all three from Jaunpur's municipal body to facilitate the property transfer.
