GORAKHPUR: On Thursday,
BJP organised a Jan Jagran padayatra against encephalitis, bad shape of roads and miserable power cuts in the city.
Yogi Aditya Nath, MP, along with the BJP leaders and activists along with the members of the Hindu Yuva Vahini, gathered on the campus of BRD Medical College. The yatra commenced from the medical college and culminated at the Commissioner's office after passing through Rapyi Nagar- Asuran- Shastri Chowk.
Around 2000 people, carrying banners and posters, participated in the yatra and raised slogans against the state government and the administration. After reaching the commissioner's office the demonstrators staged a sit-in demonstration and handed over a memo to the commissioner, JP Gupta.
Addressing the people, Yogi said, "The city is reeling very under difficult situation. People are dying due to deadly encephalitis and rampant power cuts and dilapidated roads add to the misery of people." He demanded JE vaccination for the people of the city in December and January as it takes 3 months to become activated.
Expressing his annoyance over the absence of ICU in the district hospital, Yogi said, "There is a need of ICU in Gorakhpur and Basti District Hospitals due to which patients have to suffer and move to other places. Around 6 months ago the government sanctioned Rs 23 crore for ICU in both, Basti and Gorakhpur District Hospitals, but the ICU is still missing."
He further demanded restoration of damaged roads. Yogi said, "damaged roads in the city are responsible for several accidents which occur in the city. The bypass road is full of ditches and potholes but the department is not bothered about repair and maintenance works on this road. Similar is the condition with several other roads in the city. Most of the roads are riddled with potholes making it difficult for people to commute."
Commissioner, JP Gupta assured the demonstrators for speedy action on the issues and said that he will discuss the issues with administration.
