VARANASI: The mining engineering students of BHU would display their manually controlled robots capable of travelling/walking on rough terrains in mines during the three-day annual techno-management festival 'Mettle 2011' beginning on March 31.
The fest would be organised by the mining society under the department of mining engineering, Institute of Technology (IT),
Banaras Hindu University.
Giving details of the programme at a press conference on Tuesday, B K Srivastava, head, department of mining engineering, IT-BHU, said that the fest is being organised as part of 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Pt Madan Mohan Malaviya, founder of BHU, who also laid the foundation of oldest mining engineering college in the country.
Around 30 engineering and other colleges from across the country are likely to participate in the techno-management festival, he added.
S K Sharma, chairman and professor-in-charge, mining society, IT-BHU, said, "The 3-day fest would feature a wide range of events in which the students of mining engineering would get a platform to showcase their skills in mining machinery. Other programmes like paper presentations and quizzes would also be held."
Students from IITs and mining colleges including Indian School of Mines (ISM), Dhanbad, are also likely to participate in the annual festival.
V K Singh, president, coal mining, Reliance Energy, would inaugurate the techno-management festival.
