'Itni shakti humein dena daata,' a popular bhajan, is a mandatory day-starter for staff at Cantonment branch of

Union Bank of India

(UBI) here. Monday was no different. Even before they had opened their doors to customers lining up outside, the staff got together to sing the bhajan.

Although the activity has been a part of their routine at all branches across the country since the '90s, it seems tailor-made for times like these. Constantly surrounded by angry and stressed customers, bank employees need all the help they could get.

"Prayer before starting work has been a morning ritual for us since it was first introduced more than two decades ago. It gives us strength for the day," branch manager Ranbir Singh said while talking to TOI.

"A little before our shifts get over, instrumental music is played on a low note to help us relax. It also helps to keep anxiety at bay and lifts our mood," he said. He said other banks should also start the practice in order to help the employees de-stress.
