Assam Rifles jawan held for 10-yr-old boy’s death in celebratory firing in Ballia
Varanasi: Kotwali cops in Ballia district arrested an Assam Rifles jawan in connection with the death of a 10-year-old boy in a celebratory firing at a wedding function on Friday night.Ballia ASP (Southern) Sanjay Verma said that a team led by sub-inspector Ranjit Vishwakarma was busy in a checking drive at Shivrampur Sangam Ghat when informers alerted that the accused, Sunil Yadav, was trying to escape. The police team chased him and succeeded in arresting him with a double-barrelled gun used in the celebratory firing and also its licence.Verma said the probe found Sunil serves in the Assam Rifles and had come home on leave to attend a relative’s wedding.The boy was with his father at his cousin sister’s wedding in Pandey Dera area of Ganga Shivpur Diyar under Sadar Kotwali police station when Sunil opened celebratory fire. The boy died after being hit by a bullet.On his father’s complaint, police lodged a named FIR against Sunil, who fled after the incident. Despite the sombre mood, elders intervened to ensure the wedding was solemnised.
