Varanasi: Tamil film industry has played an important role since the beginning of Indian cinemas till date, said Union Minister of State for Education Annpurna Devi while inaugurating three-day Tamil Film Festival at the grand ‘Kashi Tamil Sangamam’ festival on Monday.
She said that Tamil films are not only popular in India, but are also appreciated worldwide and many Tamil films have received international recognition.
She said that the Tamil producers, directors, musicians, film makers, actors and actresses have raised the flag of success. Taking names of eminent Tamil film personalities, she mentioned that Shivaji Ganesan, MGR, Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth, Vijay Satpathy, Vyjayanthimala, Hema Malini, Sridevi, AR Rahman to name a few, give every Indian a reason to be proud.
On the first day of the Tamil Film Festival, the famous Tamil film ‘Maamanithan’ which was made keeping both the national and social consciousness as the central theme was showcased. The lead role in the film has been played by the celebrated Tamil film star Vijay Sethupathi. The holy city of ‘Kashi’ has also been talked about and showcased in this film.
Renowned Tamil film Producer-Director Seenu Ramasamy, who was also present on the occasion, said, “I have come to thank Kashi, Maa Ganga and the Prime Minister. This Sangamam at Kashi will be memorable not only for the people of two states but for the whole country. I am very happy that my film was shown on the very first day of the film festival.”
Earlier, the chief coordinator of Sangamam’, Padma Shri Chamu Krishna Shastri presented the guests shawl and mementos with symbols of Sangamam. tnn
