Varanasi: Advocates associated with the Central Bar Association and Banaras Bar Association boycott legal work in Varanasi in protest against police lathicharge on lawyers in Hapur.
The UP Bar Council had given call for
protest against the Tuesday’s police action on lawyers in Hapur. The lawyers were demanding withdrawal of the FIR lodged against a group of their colleagues, including a woman, in Hapur district on Tuesday when the police opened lathicharge on them.
The advocates staged a massive demonstration after carrying out processions in and around the district court and collectorate compounds on Wednesday and raised slogans against police and Hapur administration.
They also held a meeting at the district magistrate office and demanded action against the policemen responsible for the Hapur incident. They also demanded the government to pay compensation for the injured lawyers and warned to intensify their stir state-wide if their demands were not met.
The lawyers also submitted a memorandum to the officials. UP Bar Council members Harishankar Singh, Vinod Pandey, BBA president Rampravesh Singh, CBA president Prabhu Narain Pandey and other office bearers of both the bars including Pradeep Rai, Shashkant Dubey, Manglesh Dubey, Anuj Yadav and Sanjay Dadhi took part in the protest. tnn
