Varanasi: A team of Ballia police on Monday arrested a fraudster from Pahadi gate of BLW (Banaras Locomotive Works) in Varanasi.
Ballia SP S Anand told TOI that one Rajan Singh of Varanasi, who had been dodging district police for past few months, was arrested near his residence at Pahadi Gate under the limits of Manduadih police station by a police team led by inspector Bansdih Mohan Singh.

The cops recovered cash worth Rs 5,990 and a mobile phone from him.
Rajan had come under police radar after one Awadhesh Pandey of Bakwa area lodged a complaint against him few months ago. The latter alleged that after Rajan got to know that he was interested in getting a bar license, he took him in confidence by claiming to have helpful connections. After he realised he had gained Awadhesh’s trust, Rajan sought Rs 30 lakhs from him, after receiving which he fled, said police.
On failing to find Rajan, Awadhesh filed a police complaint, but Rajan kept dodging the cops. After getting inputs about his presence at his home, cops raided the place and nabbed him near Pahadi gate. Several other criminal cases were lodged againt Rajan, said police. tnn

Undertrial who escaped from police custody held after encounter
A 25-year-old undertrial named Mohammad Wajid, who had escaped from police custody in Uttar Pradesh, has been arrested following a police encounter. He had planned to escape after learning about his wife's affair and wanting to kill the man involved. Three constables were suspended for negligence. Wajid has multiple cases against him, including attempted murder. In another incident, eight police personnel in Jhansi were dismissed for negligence after three undertrials escaped from a prison van. The police officials had left the van unguarded.
