300 Kashi students depart for Tamil Nadu
Varanasi: In an important step towards further strengthening cultural, linguistic and educational bridge between Kashi and Tamil Nadu, a special group of 300 students from Varanasi departed for Tamil Nadu under the second phase of Kashi Tamil Sangamam 4.0 on Wednesday. Vice Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University, Prof Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi, flagged off this group of students and bid them farewell with best wishes.It is the first time, an organised group of students from Kashi is going on a journey to Tamil Nadu, which will provide new energy to cultural dialogue between North and South India through younger generation. The conclusion of Kashi Tamil Sangamam 4.0 is proposed to be led by the Prime Minister in Rameswaram.Prior to the students' departure, a detailed orientation programme was organised at BHU. This programme was attended by 300 students and five teachers selected from various universities of Varanasi, who will visit various universities and cultural sites of Tamil Nadu under the second phase of Kashi Tamil Sangamam 4.0. The objective of the orientation programme was to familiarise students with the educational, cultural and intellectual goals of the journey and to deepen their understanding of the shared civilisational heritage of North and South India.Nodal officer Prof Anchal Srivastava addressed the students and elaborated on the concept, objectives and importance of Kashi Tamil Sangamam. She also introduced students and teachers to each other and described the cultural journey as a vibrant educational experience, called on all participants to make the most of this opportunity with discipline, curiosity and cultural sensitivity. She said this journey was not just a tour, but an opportunity to directly experience India's unity, diversity and cultural continuity.Prof R K Mishra from IIT-BHU and T Jagadeesan from Tamil Nadu were also present on the occasion. While encouraging students, they described the initiative as important to national integration. The speakers said the ancient relationships of knowledge, devotion and culture between Kashi and Tamil Nadu will move forward in a stronger form through today's youth.The theme of Kashi Tamil Sangamam 4.0 was ‘Kashi Karkalam', under which students will be introduced directly to Tamil language, literature, culture and educational traditions. The students included in this group are from various universities of Varanasi, who will visit several universities of Tamil Nadu and closely understand the academic activities, cultural traditions and social life there.The programme is not only a medium of educational exchange, but also a strong effort towards upholding the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat', in which ancient traditions, languages and values of Kashi and Tamil Nadu are connecting with each other through the youth.
