VARANASI: Sonbhadra police, on Sunday, arrested three liquor smugglers after the seizure of two trucks carrying liquor worth Rs 1.20 crore.

SP Sonbhadra Yashvir Singh said that in a joint action, the team of crime branch and Robertsganj police station succeeded in intercepting two trucks of liquor smugglers when it were passing through Robertsganj-Chopan road’s overbridge. On checking the trucks around 50,000 bottles of Indian made foreign liquor was found packed in 1,740 boxes. Total value of the seized liquor was estimated as Rs 1.20 crore, he added.

The drivers and the cleaner of the truck identified as Mehar Singh of Punjab, Sukhwant Singh and Samir Khan of Himanchal Pradesh were arrested. During initial interrogation they divulged that they used to prepare fake documents for transportation of liquor to Arunanchal Pradesh after procuring it from Punjab. But, the liquor consignments were delivered in dry state of Bihar. tnn
