VARANASI: Anti-terror squad and Cantonment police nabbed two counterfeit Indian currency (CFIC) smugglers from IG Office Road on Wednesday and recovered fake currency of Rs 2 lakh value.
ASP (ATS) Santosh Singh said that following a tip off, the joint team of ATS and Cantonment cops cordoned off IG Office Road. Later, Manoj Nishad and Arwind Nishad of Jaunpur were arrested.
Fake currency notes of 500, totaling around Rs 2 lakh, were recovered from them.
During interrogation, Manoj came out as the mastermind of the racket. He used to send gang members, including Arwind to Murshidabad, to bring CFIC consignments via Malda in West Bengal. Manoj had been active in the illegal trade for the last eight years. Manoj’s racket supplied fake currency to Delhi, Dausa and Jaipur in Rajasthan apart from the markets of Varanasi and other districts of east UP region.
