VADODARA: Baroda all-rounder and Indian player Yusuf Pathan had a scuffle with a spectator during the ongoing Ranji tie between Baroda and Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.
Yusuf was walking back to pavilion after getting out on 9 in the 84th over. Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) officials said that a couple of spectators sitting in the pavilion were jeering and passing comments at him when he was walking towards the dressing room.
“A spectator sitting in the pavilion used lewd language that angered Yusuf. The same group of spectator had also jeered Baroda batsmen Kedar Devdhar and Ambati Rayudu. Yusuf called the spectator and got into scuffle with him and slapped him. The spectator’s elder brother later apologized to Yusuf for his brother’s behaviour,” said BCA secretary, Anshuman Gaekwad.
“The match referee has taken note of the incident and sent it to the BCCI. It’s a level III offence but Yusuf has been reprimanded for the first time in such case and hence he may not be banned for the next match,” Gaekwad told TOI.
BCA in-charge secretary, Snehal Parikh said that some spectators had been behaving badly and using foul language for players during the match. “Yusuf got angry when the spectator made personal remarks. Instead of the enjoying the game, some spectators resort to such acts and it’s not good,” Parikh said.
Yusuf came on fifth position to bat and got out when he tossed a catch to Adil Reshi of Samiullah Beigh.
