WI draws match with Board President’s XI
VADODARA: Thousands of citizens turned up to watch the Indian cricketers take on the West Indians in the warm-up game at Reliance Stadium on Sunday.
Fans had gathered on Sunday to watch some fireworks from both West Indies and Indian cricketers and they were not disappointed. West Indian openers KC Braithwaite and KOA Powell stitched a partnership of 105 runs before being retired hurt. Board President’s XI bowlers did get regular wickets but the visitors batted well and at a quick pace.
Shai Hope scored 36 runs and wicket-keeper Shane Dowrich hit 65 runs. But the day belonged to Sunil Ambris as he scored a quickfire 114 runs off just 98 balls. He hit 17 boundaries and five sixes to take West Indies past the Indian score. Board President’s pacer Avesh Khan bagged four wickets including two back-to-back leg before wicket (LBW) while Saurabh Kumar got two wickets in his kitty. The
Braithwaite said that it was a useful practice for them and they want to carry forward the form in the test matches against India. He praised Sunil Ambris for scoring a century and said that he was happy with the way their team batted. Indian skipper Karun Nair had a word of praise for Khan who bagged four wickets and Bawne for scoring a century.
The Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) hasn’t hosted a single international cricket match in last eight years due to lack of a stadium. But it got to host three women’s one day internationals earlier this year.
