VMC gave up on cleaning efforts
Vadodara: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) had taken up plans to clean the Sursagar aggressively in 2011-12. However, after that there were little efforts in this direction barring surface cleaning of the water body that was hardly expected to deal any results in the long run.
In 2012, the civic body had invited Manu Bhatnagar, then principal advisor of environmental projects in the natural heritage division of the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH), to have a look at the Sursagar. Bhatnagar had even sent a report to the civic body on the pond but little was heard on this in the subsequent years.
Other experts too had offered their services for the purpose and suggested techniques like bior-remediation to the civic body. But the VMC only relied on extensive aeration of the pond that was started in 2012 and even that was discontinued later.
