Vadodara-based taxman works to promote Rabindra Sangeet
VADODARA: He is commonly associated with tricky tax calculations to a matrix of figures, but music is what the heart of this commissioner of central excise and customs beats for. Senior India Revenue Service (IRS) officer IndrajitDasgupta has both Hindi and Bengali albums to his credit.
While pursuing music may be a hobby or even a profession for many, Dasgupta has taken it a step further by making efforts to ensure that Rabindra Sangeet crosses the boundaries and is known across the country.

Dasgupta has brought out albums of the genre in Hindi and is the first person to make conscious efforts in this regard.
Dasgupta's albums featured superstars Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan who have appeal across the country. Javed Akhtar was the lyricist in a music album brought out by Dasgupta.
Dasgupta said his love for music had its roots in the family itself. His father was a scientist by profession, but also a very good singer. "We also had a collection of antiques and it included an old gramophone. I used to hear music on this," he said. His sister too had a keen interest in classical music.
According to Dasgupta, music also helps in doing away with the stress related to work. "We attend office from 9.30am to 6pm. This is stressful and music helps in a major way in distressing," he said.
Dasgupta's wife Ratna Dasgupta is also an IRS officer and is presently posted as a commissioner of income tax at Bangalore. Much like her husband, she too likes classical music and helps her husband with the editing of his albums.
Dasgupta said he and his wife rehearse till late in the night after work. "This makes us feel really fresh the next morning. People believe that they do not have time for such activities, but I believe that time is elastic and you can always find time to do something that you are interested in," he added.
