Two from Ahmedabad held for stealing car silencers

Vadodara: The crime branch sleuths arrested two men who allegedly stole several silencers from the cars in the city over the last few months. Cops have detected 12 cases of vehicle silencer thefts and some more arrests are expected soon.The police said that its team was out patrolling in the Gotri area on Thursday when it spotted a black car that was passing by. The car’s driver tried to take a U-turn after seeing the police van following. The cops intercepted the vehicle. The duo travelling in the car were identified as Mushtaq Sheikh and Sajjad Sheikh, both residents of Ahmedabad.When the cops checked the vehicle, they found five car silencers that the duo had stolen. They used to remove the metal dust from the silencers and sell it in the market. Interestingly, the gang used to fit the silencers again in the same cars so that the owners don’t learn about the theft.The duo admitted having stolen 21 silencers of different four-wheelers in the city. The cops have detected 12 of these cases. Mushtaq has been arrested in the past in chain-snatching cases in Ahmedabad and Sajjad had stolen the silencers of two cars in Ahmedabad.
