Three arrested for truck driver’s murder, robberies

Vadodara: Three members of a gang were arrested by Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) on Thursday for allegedly murdering a truck driver and committing several robberies on the outskirts of the city. Police said they nabbed the trio based on a tip-off.
"We suspected that the trio were involved in the highway robbery of truck drivers. During questioning, they admitted to having committed two offences, including a murder," said a DCB officer.
The accused have been identified as Ahmed Mori, a resident of Surendranagar, Haaji Mori and Kalu Kharaai, both residents of Ahmedabad. The fourth gang member, Ismail Kharaai, is yet to be arrested.
In March, the accused had allegedly attacked a man who had parked his car on the highway behind the Makarpura Air Force Station. They dragged him to a field, assaulted him and looted his mobile phone. In April, they attacked Meraj Khan Pathan, a truck driver, near Sundarpura village, and killed him.
Police said Pathan tried to fight off the gang, so they assaulted him brutally, causing his death. The same gang also allegedly robbed another truck driver of Rs 5,000 a couple of days later in Makarpura. Police said this gang usually targeted commuters on the highway and robs them at isolated spots.
This gang has robbery cases registered against them in Ahmedabad, Kheda and Surendranagar. "We are now trying to track down the fourth accused and ascertain if this gang committed any other offences in the last few months," police added.
