VADODARA: Tainted city engineer V N Taylor who was caught taking a bribe late on Tuesday night was suspended by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC). The district court at the other hand has fixed Taylor's bail petition for judgement on Friday. The proposal to suspend Taylor was moved as a supplementary agenda in the standing committee meeting that took place on Thursday.
Municipal commissioner M K Das put up the proposal along with the report sent to him by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) regarding the offence registered against Taylor. The city engineer was caught taking a bribe of Rs 80,000 from Dinesh Makwana, a contractor. Executive engineer Shailesh Mistry has now been appointed as the in-charge city engineer. Besides being the executive engineer for water projects, Mistry currently holds the charge of the town development officer.
Taylor's bail petition that was filed on Wednesday night when he was presented before a court came up for hearing on Thursday. The ACB opposed the petition stating that if granted a bail, Taylor could temper with records and try to influence witnesses. It also stated that if Taylor was granted bail, it would se-nd a wrong signal to the society. The application was fixed for a judgment on Friday and Taylor was kept in judicial custody. ACB inspector K V Solanki, me-anwhile, said that they were still looking into the assets owned by Taylor. "We are in the process of collecting details of any possible movable and immovable assets owned by the accused," he said.
Meanwhile, the opposition in the VMC has, meanwhile, demanded that the civic body must declare the assets owned by its class one officers.
