Six held for abetting suicide of woman, 2 kids

Vadodara: Padra police arrested six persons for abetment of suicide and other offences in connection with the incident of a woman ending her life in Padra along with her two sons. The accused include her husband and his family members. The woman Rashmika Waghela (35) had ended her life by jumping into the Ambaji pond near Padra along with her sons Rudra (12) and Daksh (8) late on Friday afternoon. Rashmika’s father Magan Vankar accused the in-laws of harassing his daughter and driving her to a point of no return. In an offence registered at the Padra police station, Vankar stated that Rashmika’s husband Ratilal Waghela had asked his father-in-law to give him his house in Bhayli for staying. Vankar stated that he used to rent out the house, but when Ratilal made the demand in 2020, the house was vacant for some time. Vankar further said that that he told his son-in-law that since his father had given houses to Ratilal’s sister as well as brother, he should do the same for his son Ratilal. Vankar claimed that peeved at this, Ratilal thrashed Rashmika. After being informed about it by Ratilal’s neighbour, Vankar brought Rashmika home. They also filed a case in the Karjan court against Rashmika’s in-laws. They, however, withdrew the case after a compromise was reached and Rashmika returned to stay with Ratilal and his family.Rashmika, however, started facing harassment again, Vankar alleged and said that they had refrained from complaining about the incident. When Rashmika left home with her two sons late on Friday afternoon, Vankar stated that he had been informed about the incident only in the evening. The police arrested six persons including Ratilal, his father, mother, uncle, aunt and sister.
